Lesson Plans for 10/18-10/22

MONDAY
Personal Dictionary- Word #30 "Hobby"(Analyze the meaning of words and phrases in their context. (Benchmark 1.A.3b)
Writing Journal Entry- "Monday Morning Memory"
Activities:
     5th Grade-  Students will be taking a tour of the "Writing Lab" today.  I will be showing them what all of the stations will consist of and modeling/practicing these rotations.  The stations today that I will inform students about will be: a word-processor/typing tutor station, a blogging/research station, a teacher conference station, a skill enrichment station, and an independent writing draft station.  If enough time allows I will be introducing the classroom blog to respond to.

Activities:
     5th Grade-  Today we will be working on an expository writing piece.  This piece will first consist of drawing a "treasure map" and labeling a start and finish point.  Once this map is complete, steps  informing how to navigate from start to finish will be worked on.
     6th Grade- Today the 6th graders will be continuing the persuasive piece that they started over the weekend.  I collected them yesterday and briefly checked them over last night.  They will now today work with a peer to complete some initial stage editing.

WEDNESDAY
Personal Dictionary- Word #32 "Generous"(Analyze the meaning of words and phrases in their context. (Benchmark 1.A.3b)
Writing Journal Entry- "Current Event"
Activities:
     5th Grade-   Today students will continue their "treasure maps".  Maps must be neat, somewhat accurate, and colorful.  Also, by the end of this class period I expect a very detailed list of steps demonstrating how to get from start to finish.  These steps must be complete sentences using key words such as "North, South, East, and West, turn left, turn right, head south, etc..."
     6th Grade- Today I want to demonstrate a little bit about how to research using google.  I will be navigating google and the research process on the LCD projector as a whole group demonstration.  I also want to show a brief tutorial on using "Microsoft Word" for typing and formatting purposes.

Activities:
     5th Grade-  Today is a "Writing Lab" day.  We will be working on our current writings for the week (expository "treasure map") while also rotating through the various stations in the lab.  (1.  Word-processor/typing tutor station, 2.  a blogging/research station, 3.  a teacher conference station, 4.  a skill enrichment station, and 5.  an independent writing draft station).
     6th Grade-  Today is a "Writing Lab" day.  We will be working on our current writings for the week (persuasive "uniform policy") while also rotating through the various stations in the lab.  (1.  Word-processor/typing tutor station, 2.  a blogging/research station, 3.  a teacher conference station, 4.  a skill enrichment station, and 5.  an independent writing draft station).

Activities:
     5th Grade- Today we will be taking an assessment that will be three-fold.  I will be assessing vocabulary, the convention focus (nouns), and a short writing assessment.  The writing portion of the assessment may be about basic paragraph writing skills or anything else that we have talked about for the week. 
     6th Grade- Today we will be taking an assessment that will be three-fold.  I will be assessing vocabulary, the convention focus (nouns), and a short writing assessment.  The writing portion of the assessment may be about basic paragraph writing skills or anything else that we have talked about for the week.
